Optimal Diet?

There is an ongoing battle in the book and blog publishing world as to what is the most appropriate diet for us human beings.  The exchanges, as witnessed by comments to the blog posts, as well as in the reviews of the related books as found on Amazon's sites, can be quite heated, often degenerating into ad hominem commentary (e.g., name calling and personal attacks!) and other unsavoury comments.  This phenomenon is so crazy that we thought it would make a good introductory post to finally launch this blog.

To start off, we wish to clarify that by the word "diet," we don't mean some short-term approach to dropping pounds quickly.  By diet, we mean a life-long approach to eating "properly" to fuel your body to do what you need it to do every day.  Of course, one could probably eat junk food from time-to-time on a so-called good diet without much impact but that is not the point of our discussion (many fad diet books actually promise this possibility as if it makes them unique or special).

There are literally hundreds of diet recommendations in books, blogs, and advertisements out there.  This has been going on for decades already.  One might question: "Why are there so many contradicting recommendations out there?  Isn't there some sort of science to this?"

As an aside, while we're writing this right now, we're listening to an infomercial about "fast carbs and slow carbs" on TV (3:55 am EST, Jan. 18, 2013, on OLNHD-56 Cable, some sort of ad show).  This TV show has a "definite" solution (6 easy payments of $19.99 would be all it takes! [according to the ad!]).

Future posts will get into the major competing diets.  One-size-fits-all may not be a legitimate possibility.  However, that again is not so clear as you may feel great on one particular diet but be unwittingly damaging your body from within.  Information will be presented that should at least cause some pause for thought.
